Respect Yourself

I want someone to explain to me why people trash hotel rooms and have no problem cleaning out their car by just throwing it in the grass or parking lot.  Not only do I find it rude for those who have to clean it up, but it shows how much a person doesn’t respect themselves.  It shows that the person disrespects themselves.

I remember seeing pictures of when Disneyland opened in California.  The guests were wearing suits and dresses.  Nowadays, we are lucky if we see anyone not wearing sweatpants and t-shirt or pajamas when we go anywhere.  The things we do and wear are not only how others form opinions about us, but also how we feel about ourselves.  If we don’t respect ourselves we will treat ourselves and everything around us like trash.  When we care about ourselves, we make sure we look our best.  We need to treat our belongs well and keep our surroundings looking nice.  If we respect ourselves, we treat others the way we want to be treated… with respect.

Everything is connected.  When a person doesn’t respect or care about themselves, it shows in their actions including how they dress, keep things around them and represent themselves with others.  So, if we are wearing a cute outfit with our hair looking nice, a person will most likely treat us with kindness.  But if we are wearing sweatpants and t-shirts with our hair not even looking brushed, others will do things to avoid us.  The only thing that will help us get treated kindly no matter what we look like is a smile… and showing kindness.

I have to work on looking nice… some days I just don’t feel like leaving the house and throw sweatpants on to go to the store.  And some days I feel down about myself even if I am dressed up.  Even then I always have respect for others because I know my feeling down is temporary.  But no matter how I feel about myself, I always have a smile to share to make anything I wear look good.
